Evidence review
Reviewed all five research-note files. The notes generally distinguish evidence, reception, and editorial application well. One citation discrepancy needs attention; the remaining findings are substantive caveats to preserve, mostly already identified in the notes. Browsing was limited to the suspected Luther locator error.
Fix or omit the Luther modern-edition page locator.
reformation_sermons.md:16gives LW 15:24 for the commentary on Ecclesiastes 2:24. This faithfully repeats Hinlicky, printed p.32 n.4, but Michael J. Chan reproduces the same passage with LW 15:46–47, printed pp.16–17 n.12. Treat Hinlicky's reference as an apparent miscitation, not independent verification. Use the securely identified 1573 edition p.47 / Ecclesiastes 2:24, or verify LW pagination before supplying it. Sources: Hinlicky p.32; Chan pp.16–17.Retain modern-commentator source qualifications.
text_and_modern.md:142,149–150,157–158,174and the two support files distinguish actual book samples from scholarly reports. Kidner's later enjoyment discussion is accessed through Stevens; Longman's detailed hevel/joy position through Fredericks, JETS 43/2, pp.321–323, especially 322, a critical reviewer. Bartholomew's 1999 Themelios article is his own earlier argument, not the full 2009 commentary. Do not present these as three equally inspected complete commentaries or attribute Qoheleth's pessimism to Longman's own final theology.Keep early works' coverage and approximate dates visible.
ancient_medieval.md:14,23,31,55: Gregory's eight homilies, c.380, stop at 3:13; Jerome's complete commentary is c.388–389; Augustine City of God XX.3 is a theological use, not a complete commentary, within a work dated c.413–427; Bonaventure is mid-1250s, and the selected examples are prologue questions, not verse-by-verse excerpts. No correction to these distinctions emerged from the review.Do not flatten lexical or eschatological disagreement.
text_and_modern.md:9–16,19–25,54,99anchors the necessary boundaries: hevel is context-sensitive; “under the sun” does not lexically mean atheism; judgment does not itself specify bodily resurrection. Conversely, describing 9:5–10 as loss of earthly participation must not become a claim that Qoheleth explicitly affirms a developed conscious afterlife. Resurrection hope and removal of all hevel require separately attributed Christian synthesis.Limit claims of influence and consensus.
ancient_medieval.md:18,26,33,58,78;reformation_sermons.md:32,43,52,76;text_and_modern.md:169–174: distinguish documented transmission from an author's overall fame or publisher praise. Wesley's dependence on Henry/Poole prevents counting them as wholly independent witnesses. Present this selection as predominantly Western Christian reception, not an exhaustive Christian consensus. Preserve Luther's anti-monastic claims as his polemic, especially since Jerome and Bonaventure qualify contempt for creation.
No additional material factual error or anachronistic confessional label was identified in this bounded review.
